Membership of the Shetland Salmon Farmers' Association, in 2002/2003, stands at 46 salmon farms and six smolt hatcheries. This represents 100 per cent of production in Shetland.

Feed companies are playing a major role in the management of salmon farming operations, and this has been recognised by the SSFA, which has now extended its membership criteria. Two sales companies, three feed companies, five mainland hatcheries and one pharmaceutical company are now associate members.
